APC
to publish athletes qualification guide for 2010 Guangzhou
Games
22-3-2010
The APC is in the
midst of drafting, preparing and publishing a detailed booklet
on ATHLETES’ QUALIFICATION GUIDE, which will serve as
benchmark for the selection of athletes bound for the inaugural
Asian Para Games in Guangzhou in December.
The APC secretariat in Kuala
Lumpur has embarked on a pro-active effort to publish the
GUANGZHOU 2010 ASIAN PARA GAMES QUALIFICATION GUIDE in a bid
to ensure and preserve the status of the prestigious Games
for athletes with a disability.
Updates are currently underway
and the guide is expected to be completed by end of March,
and made available to member countries by March 31.
“It’s part of
APC’s move to ensure that only the cream of the crop
participate in the Games, so as to ensure that the prestige
and standard of APG are not affected in any ways including
the participation of unqualified athletes,” said APC
President Dato Zainal Abu Zarin.
However, to accommodate for
the lesser and smaller nations, APC is to provide wild card
entries, which will be made available accordingly and subjected
to quotas.
The Guide, among others,
would determine the various qualifying factors and other technical
regulations for the 2010 Games including current and previous
achievements of athletes.
A total of 5000 athletes
and officials from 41-member nations are expected to compete
in the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou.
