China smashed through the 100 gold medal mark after just four days of competition in the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games to take their overall medal tally to 244, 118 of which are gold.

Despite terrible weather conditions at the Aoti Main Stadium six athletes still managed to break Asian records whilst China dominated proceedings winning 17 gold medals.

On the track records were set in the Women’s 100 T13 by Japan’s Uran Sawada (13.28 seconds), China’s Xiong Dezhi in the Women’s 100m T38 (14.82) and Thailand’s Kitsana Jorchuy in the Men’s 200m T11 (24.08)

APC President Praises China’s ‘Unwavering Support’ at Spectacular Open Ceremony

In a speech to mark the official opening of the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China, the President of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) Dato’ Zainal Abu Zarin has described China’s support of the Paralympic Movement as ‘unwavering’.

A capacity crowd inside the Aoti Main Stadium, as well as potentially over a billion TV viewers around the world, witnessed the spectacular Opening Ceremony which involved over 4,500 performers, 200 of which had a disability and was attended by Sir Philip Craven, the International Paralympic Committee President.

ASIAN PARALYMPIC COUNCIL (APC) was established on 30 October 2002 in Busan, South Korea, sets itself to be the Paralympic Power of Asia within the next 10 years (2002-2012). In 2006, the Asian Paralympic Council was replaced by new ASIAN PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE whose members were directly elected by the APC General Assembly.


ABOUT THE 2010 PARA GAMES OF ASIA


The 2010 Para Games of Asia is approved and governed by the Asian Paralympic Committee and will be held in “Flower City” of Guangzhou from December 12-19, 2010. More than 4,000 athletes, coaches and trainers from 40 countries will compete in 19 sports.

The Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games is the first edition of the Asian Para Games, which developed from the FESPIC Games (the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled) and will become a new starting point for the multi-disability sporting events in Asia.

"With 'We Cheer, We Share, We Win' as the Official Slogan of the 2010 Asian Para Games, GAPGOC aim at disseminating Paralympic values and humanistic values among communities which would admire equality, participation and sharing in the ultimate, by holding the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou.
