Agitos Foundation to support Asian Youth Para Games activity

By : APC Media
Date : September 28, 2017

The Asian Paralympic Committee have been successful in securing funding as part of the Agitos Foundation 2017 Grant Support Programme which will enable the Proud Paralympian programme to run during the 2017 Asian Para Youth Games.

The Games will take place from 10 - 14th December in Dubai, UAE, with athletes aged 13-20 from across Asia countries competing in 10 sports.

The Proud Paralympian activity will create a cohort of c.600 young para-athletes who are positive ambassadors for the Paralympic movement in Asia.

Through a combination of workshops and via an information hub, the athletes will be educated so that they are better equipped and more motivated to have a successful career in the Paralympic movement and beyond. In addition, they will gain a greater understanding of their role in supporting the wider societal impact the movement can have. The workshops will be delivered by established para-athletes who are trained to be Proud Paralympian leaders and will cover topics such as the history of the Paralympic movement, working with the media and how to combine a sporting career with day to day life. The Proud Paralympian Leaders are currently being recruited by the Agitos Foundation. National Paralympic Committees from the Asian region are invited to submit athlete nominations no later than Wednesday 4 October 2017. More information on how to apply can be found by clicking here

Commenting on the award, APC President Majid Rashed said

The vision of the APC is 'to make Asia one of the leading regions of the Paralympic movement in enabling athletes with an impairment to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world'. To do this we need to increase the number of para-athletes in our region so create more ambassadors to help drive societal change. Running the Proud Paralympian project at the Asian 2017 Youth Para Games will help us to do this so I'm delighted that the Agitos Foundation has approved this grant. I'd like to thank them for supporting us in our vital work with young people
