The Asian Paralympic Committee today sent its condolences to the family and colleagues of Dr Kazuo Hatada of Japan who passed away recently.

Dr Hatada was an Orthopaedic Surgeon who became a member of the Japanese Para Sports Association in 1984. His involvement in the Paralympic movement widened and he became an Executive Committee Member of the International Stoke Mandeville Wheelchair Sports Federation (ISMWSF) in 1988, a position he held for ten years. In 1994 he became President of the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled Federation (FESPIC) and remained as President for twelve years. His contribution to the Paralympic movement was recognised in 2007 when he was awarded the Paralympic Honour by the International Paralympic Committee.

President Majid Rashed commented;

We are deeply saddened at the passing of Dr Hatada who played such a vital role in the development of the Paralympic movement in Japan and the wider region. We send our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. His legacy will live on through the work of the APC and the Japan Paralympic Committee.
