PyeongChang 2018 day 9: Another medal for Japan’s Muraoka on final day of competition

Japan’s Momoka Muraoka took Silver in the Women’s Slalom Sittingin the final medal race of the 2018 PyeongChang Paralympic Winter Games. This took the 21 year-old sport science student’s medal tally to five from five events and firmly established her as one of the the top female sit-skiers in the world. In recognition of her achievements, she was chosen as flagbearer for Japan at the Closing Ceremony.

The Cross Country Skiing Mixed relay events also took place today. Several teams from Asian took part. Japan were the highest placed finishers coming 4th in the 4x2.5km Mixed relay.

The only other medal that was awarded today was in the Para Ice Hockey where USA beat CAN 2-1 in a thrilling game that went into overtime.

When the final medals were tallied up, Japan had won ten medals in total, four more than they won in Sochi 2014. Despite this, they finished 9th on the medal table versus 7th in Sochi, a result of the USA and Belarus winning significantly more medals than in 2014. The final medal table for the Games looks like this:
