APC Executive Board meets ahead of General Assembly and Elections on 6th Feb

The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) Executive Board held their final meeting ahead of the 5th APC General Assembly and Conference, in Dubai on Saturday (February 2, 2019). The elections for a new board are due to be held during the General Assembly on February 6, 2019.

Fourteen members from the existing board attended the meeting, the 20th APC Executive Board meeting, which had discussions on several topics like APC General Assembly, Financial and Biennial Reports. Reports were also heard from the Standing Committees and representatives from the five Sub-RegionsCentral, East Asia, South Asia, South East Asia and West Asia

APC President Mr. Majid Rashed welcomed the board to the final meeting in Dubai and thanked them for their contribution towards the Paralympic Movement.

It has been a great four years since the existing board was elected. Over this time, we have achieved a lot and overcome many challenges as well. I thank you all for your commitment and dedication shown towards the Movement. For those who will not be with us from here on, keep supporting us and I hope we continue our relationship and continue working for the good of the Movement,

said Rashed. 

It was also an emotional moment for some of the Board members who attended their final meeting, They also expressed their happiness and satisfaction to have served and worked towards promoting the Movement in Asia.

The meeting also had a presentation on the Strategic Plan (2015-2018) presented by APC CEO Tarek Souei and one of the APC Post Games report. Another important part of the day’s meeting was the endorsement of the election from the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games where Jeong Min Lee from NPC Korea was nominated as their Chair of the Athletes’ Committee. He will now sit on the new Board, alongside the five sub-regional representatives who were also elected during the Jakarta Games.

The meeting also considered Executive Board election and nomination policy and procedures for the Feb. 6 elections. Mr. Rashed is standing for a second term and is unopposed for the APC President’s position. The other positions which will go under election are –two Vice President, one Chair of the Women in Sport Committee and two Member at Large positions

The final Board position, that of the third Vice President, is nominated by the NPC of the country where the next Asian Para Games will take place, namely Hangzhou China in 2022.
